FAMILY SUPPORT
Family Support Services
Our Family Support Services department encompasses a large spectrum of services and programs. Respite Care, which provides short-term relief for primary caregivers, is a primary concern because the agency strongly feels it is important to assist both the individual and the family. Many different types of services, including various forms of Respite, are available.
PERSONAL ASSISTANCE
Staff are trained in areas of physical management and mealtime challenges. Our providers also offer other basic skills to assist individuals with disabilities by providing personal services, such as bathing and dressing.
WEEKEND RETREATS
Weekend Retreats are for people with disabilities ages 8 and up who are eligible for recreational camps in a “mini-camp” format (Friday-Sunday). Weekend retreats are held in various places around the Mid-South.
SUMMER CAMP
Summer Camp is divided into two weeks in the summer, (July - August). Both Camp Sessions are residential (campers do not go home during the week-long camp). Campers participate in recreational activities with a central theme. Click here to read more about summer camp 2025

NAVY RESPITE CARE
Navy Exceptional Family Member Program Respite Care is available to eligible families as one of the Navy Child and Youth delivery systems of care. Respite care supports families through the Give Parents A Break services.

IN HOME CARE
Temporary IN-HOME Care for children/adults with developmental disabilities who live at home. Trained Respite staff provide activities and care for service recipients.
OUT OF HOME CARE
A Trained Respite provider will take care of an individual in their home after an inspection has been done to make sure the home is safe and accessible for proper care.
HOMEMAKER SERVICES
Provides assistance in the home with routine household chores.

Making the bed and washing dishes

Personal laundry and ironing

Meal preparation

Grocery shopping

Errands, such as getting prescriptions filled
ELDER CARE
Elder Care provides care to adults ages 65 and older, through the Aging Commission of the Mid-South. The program enables us to assist seniors in Shelby, Fayette, Tipton, and Lauderdale Counties in West Tennessee.

ADULT CARE
Adult Care (Sitter Service) provides a period of relief for the caregiver away from their caregiving responsibilities. It affords caregivers the opportunity to tend to personal matters or just have the opportunity to rest.
COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION
Individuals and families are formed by the communities in which they live. Learning about these communities and understanding their cultures are key to making successful links between families and the services they need and to promoting the health and well-being of children and families.

Sign all forms, information releases, and liability release

Attach a letter of disability or a psychiatric evaluation which states disability diagnosis by a professional, i.e. doctor, teacher, therapist.

Return to The Arc Mid-South with $35 annual fee.

(All clients are required to update their application on an annual basis or services may not be rendered for the coming year.)
The Arc Mid-South provides supplements and camperships for low-income families to receive services. Each case is reviewed individually. A Family Services fee is requested of participants in all agency programs. For more information about programs, contact The Arc Mid-South at (901) 327-2473.
Funding is provided through Medicaid waivers, private pay, and scholarships.
