Brittany Carter, who has served as The Arc Mid-South’s Assistant Community Advocate since 2009 recently graduated from The University of Memphis, December 17, 2011, with a degree in Professional Studies. Carter was recently honored as recipient of the outstanding student award from the Tennessee Association of Higher Education and Disability conference. The award honors a currently enrolled student with a disability whose academic achievement, participation in student activities and disability advocacy have created positive disability awareness and have helped dispel traditional myths regarding disability. Carter is a definite reflection of The Arc’s mission of “Empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to achieve their full potential.”
